The World Health Organisation (WHO) asserts that toponymic disease names stigmatise nations, announcing it would replace such names of COVID-19 variants with Greek alphabet letters. Maria Van Kerkhove, technical lead of WHO’s COVID-19 response, stressed that the new names “will not replace existing scientific names, but are aimed to help in public discussion”, RFI reports.
