Italy’s Democratic Party unseats populists in Rome and Turin — — -Brussels (Brussels Morning) Italy’s centre-left Democratic Party (PD) scored two key victories in the second round of the country’s mayoral elections, unseating populist 5-Star Movement (M5S) mayors in Rome and in Turin.

According to Monday’s preliminary results, PD’s former Economy Minister, Roberto Gualtieri, will become the next Mayor of Rome, succeeding the M5S mayor, Virginia Raggi, who, having come third in the first round, did not participate in the runoffs.
